The St. George Lambroasters
Summer is drawing to a close and school has started. High school football is capturing
the attention of people in Western Pennsylvania.
The memories of summer continue to linger. For the faithful who come to the picnics at
the St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Carmichaels, among their favorite memories is the taste
of the incomparable fresh roasted lamb.
Milosh "Serb" Krewasky is the master at the trade of preparing lamb for the many people
who come from great distances to enjoy the serene atmosphere of the St. George Church picnic
grounds.
"Serb" has assembled a dedicated crew of roasters that includes Bert and Phil Titus,
Jim Ziemba, Ricky Hribel, Brian Hathaway, Mike Evosevich, Lloyd Richards, Newt Yoders,
Paul Teagarden, Bob Burry, Jim Genecel and Earnest Matijasic.
While most people are asleep on Saturday night, Serb and his talented crew spend the
whole night at work at the oven at the picnic grounds. They are vigilant and hard at work
through the night making sure each of the fifteen or sixteen lambs is prepared exquisitely.
The "St. George Roasters" enjoy a legendary reputation for the high quality of their
work. They have a loyal following of people who enjoy the lamb and come year after year.
The roasters work with the greatest of care to maintain their reputation at each picnic.
It is important to acknowledge the dedicated work of these men. They do it out of
the goodness of their hearts and for the benefit of the church. In each good work there
is satisfaction. Let us applaud the work of the "Lamb Roasters of the St. George Church"
