August 1: Midnight Office, Matins, First Hour were read.
August 3: Matins, First Hour were read. One person came for the reading of the Akathist to the All HolY Theotokos in Honor of Her Wonder-working Icon, "Unexpected Joy" and Akathist Hymn to the Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope and Love, and their mother, Sophia.
August 4: Midnight Office, Matins and First Hour were read.
August 5: Midnight Office, Matins and First Hour were read.; One person came for the reading of the Akathist to the Holy Spirit, Akathist to the Mother of God, Joy of All Who Sorrow and Akathist to St. Luke
August 6: Midnight Office, Matins and First Hour were read.; Seven people came to Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church in Fairmont, W.Va. for Vespers. An additional person came for the dinner afterwards.

The Old Testament encompasses the Divinely revealed truth given to the chosen people of Israel, with the purpose of preparing for the coming of the Messiah, the Savior of the world. The immensity of the essential link between them is seen from the very frequent quotation of the Old Testament in the writings of the New Testament in general.

August 1 - Went to Meadville, Pa. due to Diocesan Day in Shadeland.
August 2 - Participated in Diocesan Day at Shadeland.
August 5 - Went to Passavant Hospital to see parishioner.
August 6 - Went to Fairmont, W.Va. for Ninth Hour and Vespers.

Ninth Sunday after Pentecost
Matthew 14:22-34

Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. Now in the middle of the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, "It is a ghost!" And they cried out for fear. Abut immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying: "Be of good cheer! It is I, do not be afraid." And Peter answer Him and said, "Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water." So, He said, "Come," and when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me!" And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?" And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. Then those who were in the boat came and worshipped Him, saying, "Truly You are the Son of God." When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.

Prayer and faith are themes in the present Gospel. Developing a substantive practice of daily prayer is necessary for the serious believer. Serious prayer is fundamental to the Christian life.

The present Gospel documents that Jesus took time to pray alone on the mountain. Believers benefit from taking time to pray with regularity and with attentiveness.

The rule of prayer needs to be manageable that it continues and becomes integral to daily life. The rule of prayer should not be too much that the believer gives up in frustration.
