I Timothy 4:1-3
Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith,
giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking in lies in hypocrisy,
having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding
to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving to those who
believe and know the truth.

A Thought from Protopresbyter Stavrofor Dr. Nedeljko Grgurevich
Byzantium, which in the fourth century became a political and cultural center,
likewise became a center for the Church and her progress and development.
This liturgical centralization resulted from the exceptional cultural prestige
of Constantinople as the capital. The Liturgies of St. Basil the Great and St. John
Chrysostom appeared in this region. Later, the entire Slavic world also fell under
the domain of the Byzantine liturgy, although it retained its old Slavic linguistic
characteristics.

From Psalm 25:1
To You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
The Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost
Matthew 22:35-46
Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, "Teacher,
which is the great commandment in the law?" Jesus said to him, "You shall love the Lord
Your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the
first and great commandment. And the second is like it; you shall 'You shall love your
neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.
"While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, saying, What do you
think about the Christ? Whose Son is He? They said to Him, "The Son of David."
He said to them, "How does David in the Spirit call Him 'Lord,' saying: 'The Lord
said to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool."
"If David then calls Him 'Lord' how is He his Son?" And no one was able to answer
Him a word, nor from that day on did anyone dare question Him anymore.
Sunday before the Elevation of the Cross
John 3:13-17
No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man
who is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son
of Man be lifted up, 'that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him
should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to
condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
According to the Holy Gospel we are to love God completely with heart, mind and soul.
Believers do well to personally measure their love for God. Believers do well to commit
to loving God completely.
At Holy Baptism the complete person is dedicated to the Christian life. The whole person
is Chrismated. When a believer confesses and partakes of the Precious Body and Blood of Christ,
the whole person is affected.
Our daily thoughts and actions will reveal the extent of our love for God. Our thoughts
and actions will reveal the extent we are faithful to God. Our patience and faith will reveal
our trust in God.
Following the ways of God require patience and faith. Following the ways of God require
constant prayer and repentance. Following the ways of God require love of neighbor.
Our relationships in the parish, in the family, at the workplace and in the community will
reveal our love for others and our love for God. The First Epistle of St. John says: "He who
does not love does not know God, for God is love."
(Jn. 4:7)
Loving God and loving others is not always easy. We will experience frustrations and
temptations in life. We may become impatient with God and with family members, friends or
co-workers. Trusting in God is necessary.
The Epistle of St. James says: "Let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect
and complete, lacking nothing."
(I James 3:4). Patience enables a person to listen for guidance from God.
Patience enables a person to look for God at work in daily life. Patience enables a
believer to consider the other person's point of view and framework of life. Patience
enables a believer to forgive with love.
Forgiveness is not always easy but is a necessity for Christians. Believers commit sins
and faithful believers look to God for forgiveness. Believers cannot expect forgiveness
from God without forgiving others.
The Christian life is to be characterized by love. Love of God and love of neighbor are
the teachings from Christ. Christ's unequalled, inexhaustible and immeasurable love were
demonstrated by His voluntary death on the Cross.
The Lord Jesus Christ had the power to resist arrest and to avoid death.
(Mt. 26:53). The Lord Jesus Christ's love for each person is
experienced in fulfillment of prayers and healing of the soul.
The sincerely repentant personally experience the love and forgiveness of God.
The sincerely repentant are changed by the forgiveness and love of God.
Personal knowledge of the love and forgiveness of God create a responsibility in the
believer. The knowledgeable believer's decisions will be affected by God's forgiveness
and love.
A knowledgeable believer is accountable for the decisions he or she makes. If we
personally know of the love of God and the forgiveness of God, and fail to be appreciative,
our ingratitude is to our detriment.
We experience God's forgiveness and love throughout life. We have the responsibility to
show gratitude for this love and forgiveness in our relationship with God and with others.
We show our love of God in our relationship with God's Holy Church. We show gratitude
by faithful attendance at the Divine services. We show gratitude to God by faithful support
of God's Holy Church to the best of our abilities.
We show our love and gratitude to God by forgiving and loving our family members,
friends, and neighbors at home or at work. Our relationships reveal our love for God.
The Psalmist said: "The earth is the Lord's, and all its fullness, the world and those
who dwell therein." (Ps. 24:1) Sincere believers are mindful of God in
daily worldly occurrences and in everything they see and do.
Decisions affecting salvation are made throughout the day. The priorities and goals we
establish should be measured and weighed according to the Holy Gospel.
The way we spend and invest our incomes, talents and resources should be weighed and
measured according to the Holy Gospel. Everything we say, think and do should be measured
according to Christ.
Sincere believers have an interest in eternal life. Sincere believers have an interest
in the Kingdom of God. Sincere believers invest their lives and their resources in the Kingdom
of God.
