A Thought from Father Kristijan Petrovich
My brothers and sisters, the love of money culminates, as seen in the reading for today,
with the clouding of our love for mankind, blinding us from seeing the humanity in people
and ultimately wishing them, as icons of God, to be saved. Let us, therefore, love God
with all our heart, mind and soul and love our neighbor as ourselves. If we do that,
the love of earthly money (which constricts and kills the soul) will be replaced within
us with the saving treasures and gifts of God, which no moth or rust can destroy or
thieves break and steal, but these riches await for us eternally, safe in sound,
in the heavens. Amen.

Psalm 57/58:1
Do your indeed speak righteousness you silent ones? Do you judge uprightly, you sons of men?
Sunday of the Holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council
John 17:1-13
Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: "Father,
the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You
have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as
many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know You,
the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. I have glorified You on
the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. And now, O Father,
glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world.
They were Yours, You gave them to Me, they have kept Your word. Now they have known
that all things which You have given Me are from You. For I have given to them the words
which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came
forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me. I pray for them. I do not pray
for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. All Mine are Yours,
and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them. Now I am no longer in the world, but these
are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You
have given Me, that they may be one as We are. While I was with them in the world,
I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost
except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. But now I come to You,
and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves.
We all have talents and gifts from God to be used wisely here on earth.
We have to determine the best way to use these talents and gifts to please God.
Prayer is the best initial and continued starting point for directing our lives.
The Lord Jesus Christ reached a certain concluding point in His earthly life.
His virgin birth was an identifiable starting point.
His death on the Cross was a certain ending point.
Between His earthly birth and His earthly death on the Cross, Jesus lived in ways
that continue to inspire and enrich every generation. He taught multitudes.
He performed miracles. He conducted Himself in ways that mystified others.
Believers determine what to do with their lives from the time of conscious decision
making until departure from this life. Believers will be judged based upon personal
decisions made and personal actions taken.
The Holy Apostle Paul told the Romans: "Each of us shall give account of himself to God."
Rom.14:12) The Lord Jesus Christ said: "For every idle word men may speak, they will give
account of it in the day of judgment."
(Mt. 12:36)
Discipline and vigilance are essential in the daily Christian life.
Care must be taken in words said and unsaid. Great care must be taken in personal
actions and the perception that personal actions communicate.
The development and maintenance of trust is necessary in personal relationships.
Violations of trust are difficult to repair. Believers faithful to God know that trust
in God is well-placed.
Believers may violate their relationship with God but God will never do anything that
violates the confidence a believer places in Him. God provides signs on a daily basis that
demonstrates convincingly He can be trusted.
The sun comes up each morning with regularity. Days and nights follow each other with
regularity. Air is present to breathe. Water nourishes the plants and animals in need.
Believers have confidence God will provide for them.
(Mt. 6:33)
The Lord Jesus Christ's Precious Body and Blood feed the hunger of the soul.
The Holy Gospel gives messages of peace for establishment in the hearts,
minds and souls of the attentive.
Believers find direction in Christ if they take time to look with anticipation and care.
Life's problems become manageable when the believer comes to God in prayer.
The best defense against being overwhelmed in life is daily faithfulness to Christ.
The heart, mind and soul nourished daily with Christ are the best preparation to face
unanticipated difficulties.
Parents strengthen there children when they raise their children as Christians and
the parents live in ways pleasing to God. Children please their parents by leading ethical
and moral lives in Christ.
The heart, the soul and the mind need careful examination each day. The heart,
the mind and the soul need nourishment from God each day and care each day.
The Kingdom of God and the salvation of the soul require constant attention.
Joy in Christ occurs when the life in Christ is consciously chosen and maintained
with consistency. Choosing to sin puts a person in great peril. Avoiding sin and being
vigilant not to give in to perilous pursuits are safeguards of the soul.
The nourishment of Christ satisfies the soul in ways unequalled by any other earthly
source. Christ is authentic. Christ is the source of authenticity for the believer's life
and interest in the salvation of the soul.
Daily life has unanticipated occurrences. Daily life has stresses, diversions and
challenges. Daily life has temptations and perilous attractions.
The narrow gate is the safe passage way to God's Kingdom and to eternal life.
(Mt. 7:13-14).
At this time of the year when the Jesus' Ascension is very much in the forefront
of our thoughts, let us think carefully about the paths we choose.
The paths we choose each day should have the Kingdom of God and the salvation of
our souls as the primary destination. When we make mistakes and take dangerous roads,
we do well to turn to God for assistance in reversing direction.
While our minds function well enough, while we have the will and the ability to
consciously decide, let us seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.
(Mt. 6:33)
