: · Sympathy extended to Petar and Gordan Kodic, a dear aunt having departed this life.
: · Three people came for Adult Class this past week.
: · Bring a friend or relative the next time you come to Church and Adult Class.
: · New flags have been placed on the veterans' graves in the cemetery.
: · St. George Church has a very high number of veterans, living and departed.
: · National Police Week just concluded. +George Rodavich and Pete Smargie are remembered for their service. Officer Jeff Standish deserves recognition.
: · The peonies planted on the grounds of the St. George Church in memory of the believers who lost their lives in Kosovo are beginning to bloom.
: · If you plan to attend the Slava Vespers in Fairmont, please inform Father Rodney.
: · On May 19 remember the miners who lost their lives in Mather, Pennsylvania (194 miners in 1928); Matewan, West Virginia (10 miners in 1920) and Coal Creek, Tennessee( 216 miners in 1902)
: · Remember the sick, the suffering, the imprisoned, those in rehab centers, the homebound, the mentally ill, their caretakers and the institution staffs.
: · Remember the men and women serving in the military and their families.
: · Remember the workers in mines, law-enforcement, corrections, probation and parole and firefighters, all working in dangerous occupations.
: · Come to church for one or more of the weekday services. Bring a friend or relative.

A Thought from Father Kristijan Petrovich

My brothers and sisters, the love of money culminates, as seen in the reading for today, with the clouding of our love for mankind, blinding us from seeing the humanity in people and ultimately wishing them, as icons of God, to be saved. Let us, therefore, love God with all our heart, mind and soul and love our neighbor as ourselves. If we do that, the love of earthly money (which constricts and kills the soul) will be replaced within us with the saving treasures and gifts of God, which no moth or rust can destroy or thieves break and steal, but these riches await for us eternally, safe in sound, in the heavens. Amen.

Sunday of the Holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council

John 17:1-13

Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, they have kept Your word. Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me. I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. All Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them. Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves.

We all have talents and gifts from God to be used wisely here on earth. We have to determine the best way to use these talents and gifts to please God. Prayer is the best initial and continued starting point for directing our lives.

The Lord Jesus Christ reached a certain concluding point in His earthly life. His virgin birth was an identifiable starting point. His death on the Cross was a certain ending point.

Between His earthly birth and His earthly death on the Cross, Jesus lived in ways that continue to inspire and enrich every generation. He taught multitudes. He performed miracles. He conducted Himself in ways that mystified others.

Believers determine what to do with their lives from the time of conscious decision making until departure from this life. Believers will be judged based upon personal decisions made and personal actions taken.

The Holy Apostle Paul told the Romans: "Each of us shall give account of himself to God." Rom.14:12) The Lord Jesus Christ said: "For every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment." (Mt. 12:36)

Discipline and vigilance are essential in the daily Christian life. Care must be taken in words said and unsaid. Great care must be taken in personal actions and the perception that personal actions communicate.
