In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise.

Mike Danko continues to travel to St. Louis in defense of miners’ pensions and benefits.

Remember the workers in mines, law-enforcement, corrections, probation and parole and firefighters, all working in dangerous occupations.

Remember the men and women serving in the military and their families.

Remember the sick, the suffering, the imprisoned, those in rehab centers, the homebound, the mentally ill, their caretakers and the institution staffs.

Thank God for the many blessings bestowed upon this Mission.

A Thought from His Grace Bishop Dr. MITROPHAN

But we are not united by blood alone, but also by flesh. The Holy Body, which is given in the Holy Eucharist, unites us with His Most-Holy Body Incarnate. The Holy Eucharist unites us with Him and with all members of the Church.

( The Teaching of Saint Apostle Paul on the Church. Translated by Protopresbyter Stefan Zaremba. Sremski Karlovac 2001. P. 48. )

The Feast of the Dormition of the Holy Theotokos
August 15/28

The Feast of the Dormition of the Holy Theotokos is the last major feast of the liturgical year. The Holy Theotokos had an earthly life lived like no other

The Holy Theotokos was chosen to bear the Christ Child. After giving birth, remaining Ever Virgin, she saw Jesus Christ grow to adulthood as a human, witnessed His Death on the Cross and came to know of His Resurrection.

The Holy Theotokos is pictured in the icons of the Holy Ascension of Jesus Christ. When she finally departed this life, she had could be considered to have lived a life worthy of study by every succeeding generation.

The Virgin Mary is not confined by the time since her departure from this life. Believers continue to pray to her throughout each day. Believers continue experience benefits from her intercession before the Lord Jesus Christ.

Miracles continue to get attributed to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mary lives on in the lives of countless girls named after her. Mary lives on in the churches and monasteries throughout the world named after her.

Mary lives on in icons bearing her image. Mary lives on in books written in her honor. Mary lives on in institutions and communities named after her. Mary lives on in the liturgical and prayer life of the Church.

No one is capable of fully assessing all the good attributed to the Holy Theotokos through the centuries. No one is fully capable of fully assessing all the lives that have changed and been inspired and renewed due to prayers to the Most Holy Theotokos.

Churches have taken the Feast of the Dormition as their name. Organizations such as Circles of Serbian Sisters have taken the Feast of the Dormition as their organizational feast.

Hymns composed to the Dormition are sung in different languages on different continents. Hymns to the Dormition not only honor the Most Theotokos, they educate and reinforce the knowledge of the faithful.

Believers do well to reflect on their knowledge of the Theotokos. Believers do well to reflect on the lives she has affected. Believers do well to think about the pilgrimages to wonder working icons bearing her image.

Serbian Orthodox Christians around the world know of the Three-Handed icon at Hilandar Monastery. The fresco of the Dormition from the Serbian Monastery Sopocani is well known

Structuring life during the year according to the major feasts is a wise investment. Structuring life according to the major feasts is a step toward the Kingdom.
